Looks like Senator Schumer is attempting increasingly divisive public moves in an effort to regain respect within his own party.
As widely reported in the media, Schumer has apparently alienated many Democrats through his semi-cooperation with President Trump earlier in the year.
And, following calls for his ouster, Schumer has apparently decided that making a public spectacle through various “bizarre” blame games is a great way to serve his constituents.
A humorous report from the New York Post highlights how Schumer has “bizarrely” blamed DOGE for the recent Brooklyn Bridge catastrophe.
A Mexican naval ship shockingly collided with the bridge, bringing back frightening memories of the devastating Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Much more evidence remains to be gathered, yet Schumer has apparently decided that DOGE, of all entities, is highly likely to be responsible for the tragedy.
“We know there has been meddling by the Trump administration into USCG staffing, and we need to know how this might have impacted the events of last night – from a command, communication and local coordination level,” Schumer asserted.
Referring to the “FAA-like traffic control operation” at the USCG, Schumer strongly implied that the Brooklyn Bridge may well be a “harbinger” of all the supposed chaos brought about by DOGE.
“There are indications that this service [Vehicle Traffic System] may not be fully or adequately functional in light of a hiring freeze … If this were the case, the Brooklyn Bridge accident would be a national harbinger, demanding immediate attention,” Schumer continued to rant.
Uh huh.
The entirety of Schumer’s angry missive can be reviewed here.
The USCG, however, has indicated otherwise in an official press release.
“U.S. Coast Guard and multiple agencies responded to a Mexican Tall ship that allided with the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday night … Sector New York immediately launched a crew from Coast Guard Station New York to the scene and established a safety zone from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Manhattan Bridge,” the USCG detailed.
Hm. So much for the USCG being so “understaffed” that it couldn’t issue an immediate response to the Mexican naval ship’s collision with the Brooklyn Bridge.
Then again, Schumer has long been after DOGE for various reasons.
According to a report from Spectrum News, DOGE indicated that it had saved over $318 million by cancelling an Office of Personnel Management contract … yet Schumer immediately expressed disbelief.
In a letter to the Office of Personnel Management’s acting director, Charles Ezell, Schumer demanded answers for DOGE’s claims.
“Despite DOGE’s claims, there is no record of this solicitation in any federal procurement databases, and OPM has refused to release any related documentation in response to public requests. Without such documentation, it is impossible to verify whether the savings claimed by DOGE are genuine,” Schumer raged.
That particular letter may be reviewed in its entirety here.
At what point will Schumer focus less on attacking the Trump administration and more on actually putting forth solutions to resolve his constituents’ concerns?
Time remains to tell, but it would not appear that Schumer is terribly inclined towards crafting solutions at any point soon.
