What a way to start the year!
As it is quite clear that the war in Ukraine is far from over, especially when accounting for the commentary from a former CIA director during a recent appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
Host Margaret Brennan began the segment on an ominous note, proclaiming, “you know, February 24th, 2022, was a wake-up call for the world on the national security front.”
Well, that’s good. Considering the border clearly isn’t a “wake-up call” on the domestic front.
That said, it seems abundantly clear that the war is somehow griding on despite the media’s monthslong proclamations regarding the imminent defeat of Putin, which does lead one to question many of the portrayals of the conflict to date.
Especially when Biden makes disturbing remarks about “Armageddon” and vague allusions to nuclear war.
Which of course means that the media has to constantly revisit the “nuclear arsenal” of Putin in keeping with their war-focused mission.
“When you hear escalation, people fear Vladimir Putin’s nuclear arsenal. What is the probability of it being used?” Brennan inquired of former CIA Director Michael Morell.
At that point, Morell apparently decided to define a new “red line” with regards to the United States’ willingness to escalate conflict with Russia, as evident from the chilling statement below.
“So I hope that part of the communication, right, between Director Burns and his- his counterparts in Russia are ‘here is what the United States will do if you were to use a nuclear weapon or biological weapons on the battlefield,’ and I hope that we’ve sent a message that our response would be significant and consequential,” Morell drawled.
Interesting.
Brennan asks what the United States would do if Putin uses his nuclear arsenal, long assumed to be the “red line” for US troop involvement.
Apparently, Morell decided to expand that line, given that he replied that the American response would be “significant” if Putin deployed nuclear weapons or biological weapons.
Amplifying the melodrama, Brennan asked, “what does significant look like?”
That’s when Morell announced what Biden has long denied, which is that the United States would, indeed, commit American troops to the ground in Ukraine.
“I think what it looks like is US forces attacking Russian forces inside Ukraine. I think that would force Vladimir Putin to think twice,” Morell intoned gravely.
More like “think twice” about all these bizarre developments that keep surfacing in the media. Most comments appear geared towards greater escalation, rather than the alternative, and while the best strategy in the long run remains unclear without the hindsight of history, it is clear that a variety of different strategies should be debated, not just constant escalation.
Speaking of escalation, Morell was also sure to stoke up fears about terrorism, that conveniently amorphous term that has justified so many governmental power grabs in the name of “national security,” including mass surveillance on Americans.
“Terrorism has always waxed and waned. It has always gone up and down. And I think it’s starting to bounce back again,” Morell boomed.
You don’t say.
Strangely, Biden hasn’t felt compelled to deliver a “significant” response to China amid rising suspicions over the real origins of the pandemic, perhaps in part due to the deep involvement of Fauci in the funding aspect.
