Governor Newsom Gloats Over Undercutting Constitution

Seems like California Governor Gavin Newsom is intent on doing just about anything but improving the rapidly declining state of California.

Indeed, rather than address the rampant homelessness, massive living costs, and widespread drug overdoses, Newsom has decided it’s apparently a great idea to focus on undercutting the Constitution instead.

Specifically, by undercutting the Second Amendment.

Newsom apparently wants to add a 28th Amendment to the Constitution, which would place varied restrictions on gun ownership.

In other words, Newsom wants to turn a proposed bill or policy into an enshrined amendment.

Even mainstream media outlets have a hard time selling that one.

As reported by Politico, Newsom’s effort is “likely quixotic,” or highly unlikely.

“Gov. Gavin Newsom is seeking an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would restrict gun ownership – a daunting and likely quixotic response to the deadliest wave of mass shootings in U.S. history that would nonetheless position California as the most aggressive state in the union on gun control,” the outlet detailed.

No kidding. Curiously, however, it also has one of the most aggressive crime rates in the nation, in large part due to its zero-bail policies and other criminal coddling efforts.

Newsom, of course, lapped up all the media attention he could get while ignoring the plight of Californians.

In an interview with Politico, the ultra-left governor laid on the pathos.

“This is a mechanism to address that despair … We’re sick of being on the defense and throwing up our hands. We want to go on the offense and be for something and build a movement that’s bottom up, not top down,” Newsom declared.

Funny that. As most Americans are sick of “being on the defense” against virulent leftists and anti-American politicians.

Newsom argued that his proposed amendment would entail “common sense constitutional protections and gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, independent voters, and gun owners overwhelmingly support,” including “universal background checks, raising the firearm purchase age to 21, instituting a firearm purchase waiting period, and barring the civilian purchase of assault weapons.”

That’s quite the amendment, especially as none of the other amendments mention specific ages or other details that are generally associated with laws, which are subject to change, versus the far more permanent amendments.

And, dodging explanations regarding the specifics of how to implement this deranged plan, Newsom continued to wax poetically about feelings.

“I don’t want to be maudlin or predictably patronizing and almost too political. But I got four damn kids, dude, I can’t take it anymore … I mean, when they go to the mall now, when they go to a movie theater, when they go to a birthday party – let alone going to school. And I have to have conversations with them about this. This is insane. It’s absolute insanity. And the biggest and most insane thing we can do is the same old BS and just point fingers. So, let’s give this a shot,” Newsom proclaimed.

It is unclear whether or not “give this a shot” was an intended pun, but, regardless, one doesn’t simply take a “shot” at the constitution.

Frankly, the whole proposal for a 28th Amendment has about as much teeth as the so-called “Reparations Task Force” … both merely serve as publicity conduits for Newsom – nothing more, nothing less.

Other pro-Second Amendment organizations were not exactly amused.

In a statement to Fox News, the NRA blasted the “beacon of violence that constitutes California.”

“Newsom’s latest publicly stunt once again shows that his unhinged contempt for the right to self-defense has no bounds … California is a beacon for violence because of Newsom’s embrace of policies that champion the criminal and penalize the law-abiding. That is why the majority of Americans rightfully reject his California-style gun control,” the NRA remarked coolly.

Alas, Newsom doesn’t let such inconvenient facts ruin his narratives of grandeur.
