Leave it to the Biden-Harris administration to scare off one of the world’s most famous athletes.
As Hunter Biden’s recent appearance at the White House, during a very high-profile ceremony, may have done just that.
Back in 2022, Biden took public notice of Argentina’s soccer superstar, Lionel Messi, though he made a rather Captain Obvious remark in doing so.
“You know, I think that Messi guy might have a future,” Biden mused at the time.
You don’t say, Mr. President.
As one of the world’s most eminent footballers, it is safe, indeed, to say that Messi has “a future.”
And that future not only includes some of the greatest recognition one can receive for being at the top of their athletic craft, but also a future that includes receipt of a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
“Lionel Messi is the most decorated player in the history of professional soccer. He supports healthcare and education programs for children around the world through the Leo Messi Foundation and serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador,” the White House announced.
However, while Messi was one of the recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, not only for his athletic prowess but also his generous spirit, he apparently declined to attend the formal ceremony at the White House.
And who could blame him?
Not only was hapless Hunter there, but also other recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, including George Soros, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and other questionable characters.
Of course, Messi’s rep provided a hilarious excuse for his absence, citing the rather standard “scheduling conflicts.”
“Soccer legend Lionel Messi was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Saturday, but he did not show up to the White House in person to receive the medal from President Biden. Messi was one of 19 recipients of the award, alongside NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
According to USA Today, Messi’s management team and his pro team, Inter Miami, informed the White House ahead of time that he would not be able to attend the ceremony due to scheduling conflicts,” Fox News reported.
Amazing how “scheduling conflicts” have explained everything from celebrity breakups to superstars blowing off Biden.
Though in this case, Messi likely wanted to avoid being photographed with the likes of Hunter and his varied hangers on.
“Hunter was seen at the medal ceremony just one month after he was pardoned from his legal troubles by his father, who has recently been trolled for his final list of recipients of the nation’s highest civilian honor. Hunter shook hands with those who attended, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and applauded those awarded with former President Bill Clinton,” the Daily Mail reported.
So, Hunter was shaking hands with top dogs at Defense while simultaneously hobnobbing with Clinton and Co., all after receiving a comprehensive pardon.
Now that’s a presidential nepo baby in a nutshell.
