While Senator Bernie Sanders might be gloating over Zohran Mamdani’s recent victory in New York City – to the extent he shaded former presidential candidate Kamala Harris – he is likely less than pleased about another major story dominating the headlines.
According to a stunning report from the New York Post, Trump recently prevailed, at least in part, in the mega-lawsuit that he launched against Paramount.
The lawsuit emerged in response to the apparent “doctoring” of Harris’s interview, which took place while she was still on the campaign trail.
Trump complained that Harris was edited to sound much more articulate than she truly was, and he launched a massive lawsuit in response, claiming “election interference.”
Now, CBS and Paramount Global have agreed to an estimated – and staggering – $30M settlement in order to address Trump’s election interference lawsuit against the network.
Trump is set to receive $16M upfront, part of which will be used to cover his attorneys’ fees, amongst other costs incurred from the lawsuit.
The other anticipated $14M will reportedly “set aside for advertisements, public service announcements, or other similar transmissions, in support of conservative causes by the network in the future.”
The shock settlement has resulted in an apparent “Trump Rule,” designed to keep the media in check.
Specifically, the network agreed to “promptly release full, unedited transcripts of future presidential candidates’ interviews.”
“With this record settlement, President Donald J. Trump delivers another win for the American people as he, once again, holds the Fake News media accountable for their wrongdoing and deceit. CBS and Paramount Global realized the strength of this historic case and had no choice but to settle. President Trump will always ensure that no one gets away with lying to the American People as he continues on his singular mission to Make America Great Again,” a Trump spokesman declared.
That said, the network also released itself from claims of any future wrongdoing in its settlement.
“The settlement will include a release of all claims regarding any CBS reporting through the date of the settlement, including the Texas action and the threatened defamation action,” Paramount asserted.
Nonetheless, various Democrats and progressives are likely displeased by the outcome.
Including the aforementioned Sanders.
Sanders, alongside other Democrats, had sent a letter to Shari Redstone, a controlling shareholder in Paramount who reportedly pushed the company to settle.
The letter asserted that the lawsuit was nothing more than “a blatant attempt to intimidate the media and those who speak out against him, President Trump.”
However, despite the letter, it would appear that Paramount opted to settle without admitting to wrongdoing, rather than risk further wrankling the president.
Perhaps Sanders should spend less time threatening other Democrats – chiefly by asserting they will go down “like the Titanic” – or perhaps less time preening for the media in general.
Which he has done in a rather insufferable manner ever since his hero socialist, Zohran Mamdani, “won” in New York due to a slew of very low-information, albeit supremely entitled, voters.
However, when going up against a major corporation, it would appear that Sanders is not as persuasive as he is with Mamdani’s followers.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how closely the “Trump Rule” is respected in the future.
