Earlier this year, President Donald Trump made multiple headlines with an executive order that revolves around the following objective: Make America Healthy Again.
As noted in the executive order, “the health of Americans is on an alarming trajectory that requires immediate action.”
Part of that “immediate action” includes a major league overhaul of various ingredients used in different American food products.
And one of the most insidious ingredients includes high fructose corn syrup, which has crept into multiple food and beverage products.
Including pop, soda, or varied fizzy drinks – everyone has their own preferred term.
And it is highly likely that most individuals would prefer their soda without a heavy dose of the artificially crafted syrup, largely derived from corn products.
Now, under the new “Make America Healthy Again” directive, at least one major company has been inspired to move away from high fructose corn syrup and towards cane sugar – a much more natural alternative.
As reported by The Hill, none other than Coca Cola – a legendary American company – is falling in line with Trump’s quest to make the nation healthy once again.
Specifically, The Hill reported that Coca Cola has opted to “use real cane sugar, at [Trump’s] request, in the American version of their flagship drink.”
And that request cannot come soon enough, especially when contrasting the physiological impacts of high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar, which is a form of sucrose.
Indeed, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has published several studies acknowledging the detrimental effects of high fructose corn syrup on human physiology in contrast to a sucrose such as cane sugar, even if both taste “the same.”
The two types of sugar may taste the same, but studies have made it rather clear that the artificial ingredients that have long thrived in American products are clearly worse for American health.
“In conclusion, analysis of data from the literature suggests that [high fructose corn syrup] consumption was associated with a higher level of CRP compared to sucrose,” a peer-reviewed study asserted.
So, in other words, soda filled with high fructose corn syrup causes significantly greater inflammation than soda filled with natural sucrose, such as cane sugar.
Little wonder that Trump is so excited about the major shift in ingredients in a classic American product.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump made it quite clear that real ingredients are finally making their (long overdue) way into American food and beverage products.
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them – a You’ll see. It’s just better!” Trump proclaimed.
On its part, Coca Cola was similarly enthusiastic, issuing a brief remark on its official webpage.
“We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca‑Cola brand. More details on new innovative offerings within our Coca‑Cola product range will be shared soon,” Coca Cola asserted.
And those “innovative offerings” appear poised to return to their roots … in particular roots grounded in natural ingredients that originate from the earth, rather than from a deranged laboratory.
Will other American companies follow the lead of Coca Cola?
Time remains to tell … but consumer demand will surely shape corporate decisions, one way or another.
With any luck, consumers will gravitate towards the path(s) that will “Make America Healthy Again.”
