Looks like President Trump is facing a tidal wave of criticism from multiple sides during a highly inopportune time.
After all, Trump just spearheaded a successful NATO summit – one in which he was bizarrely referred to as “Daddy” – wherein he achieved several longstanding objectives.
One of which included pressuring all NATO members
All members – with the notable exception of Spain – agreed.
Then again, Spain was the one NATO nation that fled to China as soon as Trump declared his trade war, so its refusal to agree to the new 5 percent threshold is unsurprising.
That said, in spite of these successes, it would appear that longstanding conservative commentators – some of whom have supported Trump for at least a decade – have suddenly turned on the president.
And one of the most brazen of all includes none other than Candace Owens.
As detailed by The Hill, Owens demonstrated a striking about-face towards Trump during a recent appearance on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
The Hill notes that Owens’s complaints are even more striking considering that she “was a staunch supporter of Trump during his first White House bid,” and she continued to publicly support him after his first departure from the Oval Office.
However, that support has apparently ended after the president began a bombing campaign against Iran.
“This was not Trump’s decision; it was [Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision … And that is the reason that he did it. We’re very aware that Israel is dictating our foreign policy, and we’d now like that to stop,” Owens raged.
In this regard, Owens sounds very much like Tucker Carlson, another long-term Trump loyalist who published a de facto tome on X against the bombings in Iran.
A tome by social media standards, anyway.
“There is zero credible intelligence that suggests Iran is anywhere near building a bomb, or has plans to. None. Anyone who claims otherwise is ignorant or dishonest. If the US government knew Iran was weeks from possessing a nuclear weapon, we’d be at war already,” Carlson huffed.
However, Owens’s opposition to Trump is especially striking when considering that she not only spoke out against Trump’s decision to bomb Iran, but also against Trump, period.
“He’s been a chronic disappointment. And I feel embarrassed that I told people to go vote for him because this wasn’t going to happen, and it is happening,” Owens complained.
Wow!
With that statement, Owens clearly set herself apart from other MAGA loyalists who have spoken out against the bombings, but not out against Trump himself.
Owens, however, is quite vehement in her sudden opposition, doubling down on the anti-Trump rhetoric in other forums.
“Trump is betraying MAGA,” Owens angrily remarked during a separate appearance on “The Stephen A. Smith” show.
Given how publicly Owens has now distanced herself entirely from Trump – rather than just distancing herself from Trump’s decision to bomb Iran – it remains unclear when, or if, she might ever support the president again.
Even less clear is which other conservative commentators may follow her lead … especially if a fresh international conflict were to proceed.
