At least one recall election worked out for the better in terms of law enforcement in the ultra-left state of California, and one such election includes the successful recall of San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin.
Boudin, who never met a criminal he didn’t like to free, was ousted by voters due to skyrocketing crime across the state.
His replacement, Brooke Jenkins, has already made her mark by revoking dozens of absurd plea deals that Boudin ordained.
Needless to say, the plea deals greatly empowered criminals.
As reported by The Daily Wire, Jenkins has started out with a bang, a “take no prisoners approach,” as evidenced in a press release.
Jenkins is especially keen on prosecuting drug dealers, who are wreaking havoc across San Francisco with their deadly trade.
“Since 2020, nearly 1,500 people have died of drug overdose in part because dealers have been allowed to operate with impunity,” Jenkins declared.
Translation: Boudin set them all free.
“The lethality of fentanyl presents a different challenge, and we must immediately change course,” Jenkins continued in another clear jab, “so we can save lives and hold people accountable for the havoc they are wreaking in our communities like the Tenderloin and South of Market.
In other words, Boudin’s approach is so bad it must be “immediately” abandoned.
“Going forward defendants holding lethal doses of fentanyl will face felony charges,” Jenkins proclaimed.
It’s about time.
What a breath of fresh air compared to Boudin, who failed to secure a single conviction against a fentanyl dealer during the entirety of 2021, despite the well-known increase in drug overdoses since the onset of the pandemic.
Jenkins also fired fifteen of Boudin’s staff, including chief of staff, in an effort to clean house.
“Today, I made difficult but important changes to my management team and staff that will help advance my vision to restore a sense of safety in San Francisco by holding serious and repeat offenders accountable and implementing smart criminal justice reforms,” Jenkins remarked in a statement to SFGate.
Not too difficult when the staff are likely just as corrupt, but everyone has to play nice in politics sometimes.
It’s a shame other Democrats won’t play nice in light of Jenkins’ efforts, as reported by The Daily Mail.
“California Governor Gavin Newsom is set to decide on a new bill that would allow for more open-air drug sites across his state, despite the disastrous pilot attempt in San Francisco which is now due to be closed,” the publication reports, “the bill, SB 57, was passed yesterday by the state senate and is now with Newsom’s office where, if signed, it will be passed into law.”
So, Democrats want to expand illegal drug access. That’s nice.
Real way to strengthen society.
The California Senate Republican Caucus has subsequently sent a letter to Newsom, urging him not to back the bill.
“It is not humane, or compassionate, to allow individuals to live, shoot up, or die on the streets without providing them the assistance and help they need to recover and live fulfilling lives,” the letter reads.
No kidding. Kind of undermines that whole “universal health” approach Newsom was trying to take as well.
“Fueling the drug epidemic with drug dens and needle supplies is like pouring gasoline on a forest fire. It merely worsens the problem. For all these reasons, we respectfully request your veto,” the letter added.
Respectfully, it’s hard to see Newsom taking a practical stand …
