Well, that escalated quickly.
As it turns out, a longstanding Trump associate – Steve Bannon – is apparently not a fan of how Senator Lindsey Graham is approaching the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War.
At all.
In fact, Bannon is so angry at Graham for apparently “stirring it up” – in reference to the conflict – that he believes Graham should actually be arrested.
A bit of a more dramatic step than a public reprimand, to put it mildly.
As reported by The Hill, Bannon issued his rather startling proclamation during a recent “War Room” podcast.
And, per Bannon, Graham ostensibly feels empowered due to his strong influence in the legislative branch.
“Lindsey Graham’s over there saying, ‘Hey, forget Trump. I got the House and the Senate. We’re going to pass it. You’re going to see something in a couple of days … He’s stirring it up over there,” Bannon grimly remarked.
And by “stirring it up,” Bannon is apparently referring to undertaking efforts meant to prolong, rather than reduce, the conflict.
And as President Trump is publicly proclaiming his support for a ceasefire, Bannon also perceives Graham’s move as one in direct conflict with Trump.
One that must apparently be stopped immediately.
“The White House has to condemn this immediately and pull all support and tell Lindsey Graham to come home or we are going to put you under arrest when you come home. You’re stirring it up,” Bannon raged.
On his end, Graham is highly unlikely to back down from his longstanding public support of Ukraine.
This support was especially evident in a posting on X that piqued Bannon’s public ire in the first place.
“The ever-resourceful Ukraine used creative drone warfare tactics to successfully attack Russian bombers and military assets used to kill Ukrainian citizens and destroy their country,” Graham asserted.
In other words, Graham was completely on board with Ukraine’s swarming drone attack on Russia, which reportedly destroyed an enormous cache of aerial weaponry that would have been imminently deployed in the conflict.
The attack stunned the world, perhaps Russia most of all, especially given how successfully Ukraine was able to strike deeply into Russian territory.
However, per Graham, Ukraine is more than justified in doing so, especially since the Russia has brutally murdered innumerable civilians since its invasion.
“Russia indiscriminately kills men, women and children. It’s time for the world to act decisively against Russia’s aggression by holding China and others accountable for buying cheap Russian oil that props up Putin’s war machine. If you want this war to end, push China to help end it,” Graham added pointedly.
And that perspective is precisely why he is unlikely to back down, despite Bannon’s threats.
Whether or not Trump would actually arrest Graham is another question, though the president has yet to make any public remarks on Bannon’s commentary.
