Now that is a rather unexpected surprise.
It would appear that one of Jeffrey Epstein’s closest “partners in crime” – Ghislaine Maxwell – has surfaced in the news once again, especially given the widespread furor against the disgraced financier.
And she may well be sitting down for a good old-fashioned interview with the Department of Justice.
That’s right: The same DOJ that recently issued an unsigned memo claiming that no further information regarding Epstein would be released.
However, Maxwell has apparently chimed in since the release of the memo, suggesting that she has information to reveal.
Which is precisely why Todd Blanche – the Deputy Attorney General of the DOJ – has opted to set up an appointment with her.
Even more surprisingly, President Donald Trump appears amenable to this meeting, despite his obvious displeasure with the constant presence of Epstein in the media.
“I don’t know about it, but I think it would be something that sounds appropriate to do it,” Trump remarked.
Startling, to say the least. Though an interview with Maxwell is likely overdue.
As detailed in a recent report from The Hill, Alan Dershowitz, who previously represented Epstein, noted that Maxwell is the de facto “Rosetta Stone” for Epstein.
“She knows everything. She is the Rosetta Stone. She knows everything. She arranged every single trip with everybody. She knows everything. If she were just given use immunity, she could be compelled to testify. I’m told that she actually would be willing to testify, and there’d be no reason for her to withhold any information,” Dershowitz detailed.
Without a doubt.
Heck, the Daily Mail has noted that Maxwell has been clamoring for the opportunity to deliver more information on the disgraced financier to Congress.
“Despite the rumors, Ghislaine was never offered any kind of plea deal. She would be more than happy to sit before Congress and tell her story … No one from the government has ever asked her to share what she knows. She remains the only person to be jailed in connection to Epstein and she would welcome the chance to tell the American public the truth,” a source detailed.
Fair enough point.
Maxwell was sentenced to twenty years in prison … While exactly zero political elites did any time of any kind.
So, it seems reasonable to deduce that a plea deal likely did not occur, given the disproportionate punishment that emerged.
And precisely why Dershowitz is gunning for Maxwell to talk.
“So, I don’t see any negative in giving her the kind of use immunity that would compel her to testify. So, she ought to be summoned in front of a congressional committee,” the attorney continued.
Dershowitz was also less than impressed by the potential release of grand jury testimonies, which he said would reveal next to nothing.
“Grand jury information is narrowly tailored by prosecutors only to provide sufficient evidence to result in an indictment. They don’t want to put a lot of material in the grand jury, because that would then have to be produced to the defendant,” Dershowitz remarked blandly.
Which is where Maxwell’s testimony is appealing.
“So, what’s much, much more important is discovery information, depositions and other kinds of things that came out of the Ghislaine Maxwell case, that came out of other cases that were pending in front of federal judges,” Dershowitz concluded.
What will come of the DOJ interview with Maxwell?
Time remains to tell, but one can only hope that she remains safe in her cell.
