“Vladimir Putin has shown an unwillingness to be reasonable and to talk seriously about brokering a peace, and I think we have to send him a message – that’s my view.”
So declared House Speaker Mike Johnson with regards to the ongoing catastrophe in Ukraine, wherein Putin has apparently opted to be merciless in his assault on any and every area of the nation.
Regardless of whether or not civilians lose their lives … or, perhaps especially if civilians lose their lives.
After all, a ruthless psychopath would be well aware of the fact that civilian deaths tend to generate greater calls to end the war … which means a greater likelihood of Putin taking even more than what he originally banked upon.
Now, as detailed by the New York Post, a wrench has (hopefully) been thrown into the tyrant’s plans, as President Donald Trump has apparently opted to heed the advice of Johnson.
Not to mention the advice of many others deeply invested in the defeat of a dictator openly allied with the likes of Iran, China, North Korea, and other similarly governed nations.
For this reason, the United States commenced military aid to Ukraine once again, after Trump reversed a Pentagon decision to cease shipments of weapons.
Both American and Ukrainian officials confirmed these reports.
Oddly, the New York Post noted that defense officials in the United States “abruptly stopped” the delivery of military aid that had already been approved.
A good portion of the aid had already arrived in Poland as well, which has a close physical proximity to the conflict.
Even more troublingly, these defense officials apparently did so “without first consulting the White House.”
Now, however, those officials are likely to consul the White House in the future – one can only hope, anyway – especially as Putin hardly ceased his “intense aerial assaults” after the sudden cessation of military shipments.
And those aerial assaults are exactly why Trump is apparently now willing to supply the war-torn nation with Patriot defense systems.
“You know, they’re very hard to get. We need them too … We were supplying them to Israel, and they’re very effective – 100% effective. Hard to believe how effective. And they do want that more than any other thing, as you probably know,” Trump remarked.
In addition to approving more military aid for Ukraine, Trump also openly vocalized his irritation with Putin, noting that his previously “nice” demeanor has been revealed to be “meaningless.”
“A lot of people are dying and it should end … We get a lot of bulls— thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth. He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless,” Trump angrily remarked to reporters, following a Cabinet meeting.
That perception is likely shared by some of Trump’s closest associates.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Vice President JD Vance challenged Putin to respond to the “bizarre” remarks issued by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who claimed that Russia was apparently in favor of Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon.
And while Iran is a separate conflict from Ukraine, the divergent position that Russia apparently holds regarding nukes in the nation was further indication of the former superpower’s refusal to cooperate.
Now that the United States has resumed its shipment of weapons to counter Russian obstinance – and perhaps should have continued providing assistance in some form all along – it remains to be seen which actions, if any, Putin will take to de-escalate the conflict.
Or to escalate it …
