The Constitution gives the president the duty to protect the American people. That duty is not optional. It is not limited by politics or party lines. When our cities are unsafe, the president must act. That is exactly what President Donald Trump is doing now in Washington, D.C., and hopefully across other cities soon. He is using the lawful power of the federal government to restore peace, order, and safety to the American streets.
Former ICE Director Tom Homan said it clearly: “President Trump doesn’t have a limitation on his authority to make this country safe again.” He is right. The Constitution gives the president control over the federal government, and Washington, D.C. is federal land. President Trump has every right—indeed, the responsibility—to step in when the safety of the capital is at risk.
For years now, Democrat-run cities have ignored rising crime. They have passed weak laws, let criminals go free, and tied the hands of police officers. The result? Americans are afraid to walk out at night. In our own nation’s capital, people are scared to jog, walk their dogs, or let their children play outside. That is not freedom. That is fear.
President Trump has taken bold action. He has temporarily federalized the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, D.C. That means the police there now report directly to federal authorities. This is not a “power grab”—it is a return to law and order. And it is well within the powers of the president under Article II of the Constitution, especially in a federal district like D.C.
Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are crying foul, calling Trump a “wannabe king.” But that is nothing more than political theater. The truth is, the president is doing what Congress has failed to do for years—make our cities safe again. And he is doing it through legal means, not by force or trickery.
Let’s not forget, the people of D.C. have a right to live in peace, just like everyone else. They should not be pawns in political games. They deserve safe neighborhoods, clean streets, and the freedom to live without fear. That’s what President Trump is working to give them.
And he isn’t stopping at D.C. He has said that Washington will be a “beacon” for other cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles—places that have also been plagued by rising crime and poor leadership. If local leaders won’t fix the problem, then the federal government must step in. That’s how federalism works. States and cities have rights, yes—but they also have responsibilities. When they fail those responsibilities, the Constitution allows the federal government to act.
President Trump’s border policies made the southern border safer than it had been in decades. Now he’s bringing that same tough, clear-eyed leadership to America’s cities. He’s not doing this for power. He’s doing it for the people.
Critics say this is extreme. But what’s really extreme is letting carjackings, robberies, and murders go unchecked in the heart of our nation. What’s extreme is watching families suffer while politicians argue over talking points.
The Constitution is not a suicide pact. It gives the president the tools to protect the country—tools that President Trump is now using wisely and lawfully. He is not breaking the law. He is enforcing it.
America is waking up. People want safety. They want strength. They want leadership. And they are getting it in President Trump.
Let this be the beginning of a new era—one where the law is respected, the streets are safe, and the Constitution is honored. For the sake of every American family, we must support this mission to restore order.
