EU Vociferously Vows To Inflict “Greatest Pain” Upon Republican States

Despite the fact that the trade war currently remains in flux due to a temporary pause on tariffs, it would appear that the EU is most definitely still fixated on the American states who it perceives as most at fault in the first place.

According to a report from Politico, the European Union (EU) has unveiled its own “tailored” tariffs – which are apparently designed to “punish” conservative states specifically.

Whether or not those tariffs will unfold remains to be seen, but it’s pretty clear that the EU has a distinct target on red states when and if they do.

“European trade officials sure know how to have fun,” Politico gloated, before segueing into the specifics of the highly targeted tariffs.

“The EU’s response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to impose so-called reciprocal tariffs on all of America’s trading partners may be less aggressive than expected, but it does show some creativity in its bid to hit the U.S. where it will hurt the most,” Politico declared.

If “creativity” can be substituted for dislike of Republican states, then sure. They’re very “creative.”

“Dig deeper, and it turns out the EU’s trade nerds have stirred some unaccustomed creativity into their expert knowledge of obscure customs codes, while channeling a helping of passive aggression to inflict pain on Trump’s base,” Politico continued.

Well, one doesn’t have to dig too deeply … after all, the EU has made it abundantly clear that it detests Republicans.

Which is why the #1 target for the EU is apparently soybeans, should the trade war resume again.

“Soybeans, the most valuable item on the bloc’s hit list, a product whose economic and symbolic significance for the Republican Party’s heartlands cannot be overstated … the EU tariffs would hit a sector already battered by China’s retaliatory measures, rising global competition and falling prices,” Politico continued.

So, the EU is teaming up with China? That’s nice.

“That’s not all: 82.5 percent of American soybean exports to the EU come from Louisiana, the home state of House Speaker Mike Johnson,” Politico continued.

Double win for them, apparently … and all the more reason to be aware of the ways in which trade wars may well disproportionately harm conservatives.

“The EU is also targeting beef from Kansas and Nebraska, poultry from Louisiana, car parts from Michigan, cigarettes from Florida, and wood products from North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama,” Politico added.

Then, more hilariously, the media outlet segued into various “niche items” that are targeted by the EU, or “other more niche items designed to cause the greatest pain to exporters in Republican states.”

“These include (but are not limited to) ice cream from Arizona, handkerchiefs from South Carolina, electric blankets from Alabama, ties and bow ties from Florida (unless they’re made of silk, which Democratic California will be more than happy to provide), and washing machines from Wisconsin … Pasta from Florida and South Carolina will also face some tariff heat, though Italy will likely be delighted to fill the market gap,” Politico smugly remarked.

So, the EU is now waging war on ice cream? Quite a “creative” comeback indeed …
