Former President Barack Obama is not exactly impressed by the relentless whining from his own political party.
Starting with the fact that many are apparently so frustrated that they do not feel like doing anything at all … as if that will change the status quo.
As reported by The Hill, the former president is less than impressed by the Democrats with the loudest – yet most directionless – voices in the room.
“Don’t tell me you’re a Democrat, but you’re kind of disappointed right now, so you’re not doing anything. No, now is exactly the time that you get in there and do something,” Obama asserted.
No kidding. And that “something” should be a tad more persuasive than the “Fight Oligarchy” rallies promoted by AOC and her colleagues … which fail to be persuasive when AOC flies via first class or private jet.
In fact, Obama is apparently advocating the opposite approach of the victim mentality promulgated by some … namely that Democrats should “toughen up.”
“I think it’s going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions. And it’s going to require Democrats to just toughen up,” Obama added pointedly.
“Toughen up.” A brilliant, two-word piece of advice that many Democrats should have long since taken.
Obama’s blunt commentary should really come as no surprise when evaluating his other statements and actions over the years.
One of his more infamous remarks included cautioning deranged Democrats about “a circular firing squad,” which could undermine their potential to have serious influence again.
Especially if the Democrats allow militants like AOC to continue having a bigger and bigger voice.
“One of the things I do worry about sometimes among progressives in the United States … Maybe it’s true here as well, is a certain kind of rigidity where we say, ‘Uh, I’m sorry, this is how it’s going to be’ and then we start sometimes creating what’s called a ‘circular firing squad’, where you start shooting at your allies because one of them has strayed from purity on the issues … And when that happens, typically the overall effort and movement weakens,” Obama warned in 2019.
Alas, AOC has hardly heeded his call – if anything, she has become more extreme than ever.
Alongside other progressive militants.
Even longer ago, Obama was attracting attention from other Democrats for being more “moderate” than other ultra-left wing members in the party.
Heck, in 2008, CNN ran the following story, which features a rather surprising headline: “Obama is looking a 2008 Republican.”
Ironically, this article was written by top Democrat strategist James Carville, who recently made headlines for his rather dire predictions for the midterm elections.
In any event, in this particular article, Carville highlights how Obama is allegedly equivalent to a Republican.
“It’s not that Obama is a socialist born somewhere other than Hawaii, or that he possesses a Kenyan anti-colonial mentality – but that some Republican needs to stand up and say, with some legitimacy, that Obama is taking all of the GOP’s ideas,” Carville declared.
Well, rather hilariously, Obama still appears to be “taking” some of the Republicans’ ideas in 2025.
In particular the longstanding idea that Democrats have long since needed to “toughen up.”
