“I think a bill can be big or it could be beautiful … I don’t know if it could be both.”
Yikes.
As reported by The Hill, the seemingly former “First Buddy” Elon Musk hardly lavished praise upon the “big, beautiful bill” pushed by the Trump administration during a recent appearance on CBS.
“I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit… and it undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk noted.
Talk about surprising blowback!
For an extended period of time, Musk was one of Trump’s closest affiliates … but now they appear at odds over quite a bit.
Elsewhere, Musk complained that DOGE is effectively being blamed for virtually every fiasco, whether or not DOGE even had any relationship whatsoever to the given disaster.
“DOGE is just becoming the whipping boy for everything … So, like, something bad would happen anywhere, and we would get blamed for it even if we had nothing to do with it,” Musk irritably remarked to The Washington Post.
Musk does make a strong point here.
After all, crazed Senator Chuck Schumer recently blamed DOGE for the Mexican Naval ship’s brutal crash into the Brooklyn Bridge … and he was serious.
On top of that, varied media outlets have also claimed that Musk has “earned” worldwide outrage – and, apparently, violent threats against his businesses.
Little wonder Musk has become a tad disgruntled as of late.
While Musk is clearly amongst the most influential thinkers – if not the most influential – with regards to many developments in the Trump administration, it would appear that he is not alone in his public criticism of the deal.
Even if a number of Republicans are poised to pose a massive headache to the president as well.
“GOP senators are vowing to rewrite the bill, but they’re still weeks away from putting together a package that can muster the 51 votes it needs to pass, according to GOP senators and aides … The more senators change the legislation, the more difficult it will be to pass again through the House,” The Hill detailed in a separate report.
No kidding.
“I would be shocked if it did not go past July 4 … There are going to be a lot more twists and turns in this road, but we’re going to get it done,” a Senate Republican aide remarked.
Two of the more recalcitrant senators include Senator Susan Collins of Maine and Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who will apparently “have a big say over the fate of Trump’s big, beautiful bill this summer,” per The Hill.
In addition, Senator Josh Hawley, normally known as one of the more conservative senators, has also come out swinging against different elements of the bill … in particular proposed cuts to Medicaid.
“Republicans need to open their eyes: Our voters support social insurance programs … More than that, our voters depend on those programs,” Hawley asserted.
What will ultimately come of this “big, beautiful” bill?
Time remains to tell, but the debates over the bill appear to be little more than a massive, massive uphill battle …
And it will be interesting to see if the vision of Trump or Musk ultimately prevails.
