Trump’s Bold Move: Slashing Ozempic Prices for Americans

President Donald Trump is once again doing what he does best—putting the American people first. This time, he’s taking on Big Pharma to bring down the cost of prescription drugs, and he’s starting with one of the most talked-about medications today: Ozempic.

Ozempic is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, but it’s also widely used for weight loss. Millions of Americans have heard of it, and many want access to it. But there’s one big problem—the price. In the United States, Ozempic can cost up to $1,300 a month. Meanwhile, in places like London, the same drug costs just $130 or even less. That’s not fair. And President Trump agrees.

That’s why the Trump administration is negotiating directly with the drug’s maker, Novo Nordisk, to give Americans a fair price. The goal is to make Ozempic available for just $150 a month in the United States. That’s still not cheap, but it’s a huge drop from what people are paying now. And most importantly, it means Americans will pay the same as people in other developed countries. No longer will we be charged more just because we’re Americans.

This new plan is part of President Trump’s larger effort to put “America First” when it comes to health care. Back in May, he signed an executive order called the Most Favored Nation Prescription Drug Pricing order. That means drug companies must give the U.S. the same low prices they offer to other wealthy nations—or face action from the federal government. Simply put, if France or Canada gets a deal, so should we.

Unfortunately, many drug companies didn’t want to play fair. So President Trump sent a letter in July to the CEOs of 17 major pharmaceutical firms. He told them clearly: lower your prices or we will take stronger steps. Since then, big companies like Pfizer, Amgen, and AstraZeneca have agreed to give Americans the same low prices they offer overseas.

Now, the Trump administration is working to add Ozempic to that list. Dr. Mehmet Oz, who now leads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, confirmed that talks are underway for Ozempic and similar drugs. He said they are rolling out these savings step by step and won’t stop until the president is happy with the results.

This is more than just about one drug. It’s about fairness. For too long, Americans have been forced to pay more than anyone else for the same medicine. That’s not what our Founders envisioned. The Constitution doesn’t give special rights to corporations. It gives power to the people. And President Trump is using that power to make life better for everyday Americans.

This is also a strong moment for states’ rights and free-market principles. By cutting out the middlemen and pushing back against greedy pricing models, the administration is showing that competition and transparency can lower costs without heavy-handed government control. This is the kind of reform that respects liberty and our founding ideals.

Soon, Americans will be able to buy these discounted medicines through a new website called TrumpRx.gov. It’s scheduled to launch in early 2026 and will be a one-stop shop for low-cost prescription drugs. This is real change—not just talk. And it’s happening because we have a president who understands that government should serve the people, not corporate interests.

In a time when too many politicians give in to lobbyists and global deals that hurt Americans, President Trump stands strong. He’s proving that with leadership and backbone, we can restore fairness to our health care system. The fight isn’t over, but we’re finally seeing results. And that’s something every American should be proud of.
