“My No. 1 priority as the governor of the state of New York is to keep people safe … When you have that high level of anxiety, now you’re dealing with the psychological toll that deters people from wanting to go on the subway.”
So declared New York Governor Kathy Hochul before deploying upwards of 750 National Guardsmen to the New York subway system for purposes of doing bag checks.
“New Yorkers are worried right now,” Hochul continued.
Well, of course New Yorkers are worried.
Not only has their city been subsumed by criminals over the last several years, but it now increasingly becoming overrun by illegals, who are all too eager to receive “free” cash.
Per Hochul, the presence of the National Guardsmen would ostensibly provide a “deeper sense of security.”
Without a doubt.
Frankly, Hochul’s decision to deploy 750 National Guardsmen was an admirable move, especially since that decision effectively exposed woke New York City DA Alvin Bragg’s ultra-woke policies driven by zero-bail, pro-criminal posturing.
“After the deployment began last week, straphangers entering the subway were greeted by camouflaged and gun-toting soldiers at bag-search checkpoints in a sight reminiscent of the city after the 9/11 terrorist attacks,” the New York Post reported.
Another sight reminiscent of the city after the 9/11 terrorist attacks includes a city with significantly lower crime rates, not to mention significantly fewer illegal migrants. In particular illegal migrants who lap up luxury hotel stays for months on end, all on the taxpayers’ dime.
Which is precisely why her partial kowtowing to the woke mob is marginally disappointing.
Apparently, snowflake commuters were disturbed to see National Guardsmen with “long guns” in the New York City subway system.
According to one incensed commuter, the National Guardsmen’s military-style guns are apparently “excessive and unnecessary.”
“To me, it’s just a display. They have no intention of using them,” the commuter huffed to the New York Post.
The snowflakes were reinforced by varied activists and interested parties on social media platforms.
For instance, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell was enraged by Hochul’s decision to deploy National Guardsmen, claiming she was treating the subways as if they were a “war zone.”
In response to the snowflakes, Hochul issued a ban on military-grade rifles “immediately after” 750 troops were deployed to the subway system, as detailed by a Hochul spokesperson to the New York Post.
That’s a shame.
Some believe that the NYPD should be the ones bearing the firepower, rather than the National Guardsmen.
As declared by former Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik in a post on X, “stop the theater! … The NYPD knows their job.”
Ah, the police may know their job, but in the pro-open borders, “defund police” city, can they do their job?
Now, there’s the rub.
