Looks like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is walking back her unwitting defense of President Donald Trump’s obvious irritation with the continuous media fixation on disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Initially, Pelosi appeared irritated by the melodrama surrounding the disgraced financier, insisting that public attention should turn towards bigger matters.
“[W]hether it’s Jeffrey Epstein or Alcatraz, it’s all off the subject of what they’re doing with this budget that is harmful to the kitchen table, meeting the kitchen-table needs of the American people,” Pelosi huffed at the time.
Now, however, Pelosi is singing a wildly different tune.
As detailed by The Hill, Pelosi openly “castigated” House Speaker Mike Johnson for his apparent reticence in releasing the Epstein files.
A reticence that was effectively confirmed when all the lawmakers were able to experience “recess” earlier than expected this summer.
With the lawmakers’ sudden summer break, Pelosi was sure to highlight Johnson’s apparent dodging of any further formalized discussion regarding Epstein.
“The crimes of Jeffrey Epstein and his enablers shattered countless lives and exposed a vast system of exploitation and violence against women and girls. For years, Epstein’s victims – many of them just children when they were abused – have waited for justice, often in silence and in pain. They deserve answers. They deserve dignity. And they deserve action from their government,” Pelosi proclaimed on X.
Ironically, some of the same statements that Republicans have issued for several years.
“That is why it is especially shameful that Speaker Johnson has shut down the House of Representatives for the summer to avoid a vote on this resolution. To block transparency in this manner is not only an abdication of duty – it is a profound insult to the victims who have carried the burden of this trauma for decades,” Pelosi continued.
So, in other words, the federal government has been delivering “a profound insult” to Americans for decades, given the duration of time in which Epstein’s shenanigans have persisted.
Interesting.
In fact, Pelosi has opted to introduce an entirely new bill that attempts to force the Trump administration to release everything on Epstein.
“Today, I am proud to join as a cosponsor of H.Res.581, the Epstein Files Transparency Act – a vital step toward truth and accountability in the face of unspeakable abuse. With this resolution, we declare unequivocally that violence against women will not be ignored,” Pelosi gleefully announced in an official press release.
Pelosi’s grand about-face is one of many surprise plot twists that have emerged in the ongoing Epstein saga. To the extent that one almost wonders if the DOJ intended to stir up a major league ruckus … After all, the infamous memo was unsigned.
Interesting food for thought.
Even more interestingly, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s erstwhile partner in crime, may well sit down for an interview with none other than the DOJ
An interview that scored even Trump’s approval, at least obliquely.
What will Maxwell reveal about Epstein that has not already been revealed? And, importantly, will she have a chance to even sit down with the DOJ at all?
Time remains to tell …
