Media Accuses Trump Of Launching “Provocative Constitutional Warfare”

“Cross the Trump administration on immigration, and you will pay.”

So declared a rather irritated Politico, a major media outlet consulted by varied political stakeholders and concerned constituents throughout the nation.
“That’s the apparent message behind two prosecutions that Trump’s Justice Department has launched against officials in the other co-equal branches of government,” Politico continued, clearly determined to emphasize why it believes that Trump has launched an unprecedented “provocative constitutional warfare” against varied individuals and institutions.

Naturally, Politico cited individuals that were accused of aiding and abetting migrants, including “a Wisconsin judge for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant leave a courthouse,” as well as “a New Jersey lawmaker with assault after a scuffle outside an immigration detention center.”

Per the media outlet, the Trump administration’s prosecution of the pro-migrant officials is indicative of “constitutional warfare.”

Politico also cited Stanley Brand, who served as a former general counsel to the House of Representatives, in order to bolster its argument regarding the apparent warfare.

“There’s nothing really to parallel this sort of full-on attack on the coordinate branches. They’ve opened another new chapter in interbranch relations,” Brand asserted.

“Interbranch relations.” Interesting.

In an effort to maintain objectivity, Politico does quote some of Trump’s allies.

These individuals argue that he has “an electoral mandate to implement his immigration crackdown, a personal conviction about the issue and broad legal authority to act.”

Mark Krikorian, who serves as executive director of the conservative Center for Immigration Studies, argued that the courts are laser-focused on immigration cases because they have been a “marquee issue” for the Trump administration.

“This is a defensive response by the administration to an assault on the law, on immigration law in particular,” Krikorian asserted.

Naturally, the Politico piece also segued into the ongoing saga of Representative LaMonica McIver, who was recently arrested at an ICE detention facility for apparently assaulting federal agents.

Per Politico, this case is an apparent example of why the Trump administration is apparently guilty of “constitutional warfare.”

However, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson had a slightly different take than a media outlet that is clearly opposed to Trump.

“No one – regardless of their job title – can be allowed to assault ICE agents or harbor illegal aliens and get away with it … President Trump is committed to removing illegal aliens from the country and defending our brave law enforcement officers. To those who plan to break the law to defend criminals and assault law enforcement agents: you will be held accountable,” Jackson asserted.

Indeed, immigration has long been considered an issue akin to a can being kicked down the road … and it seems the can spews out quite a bit when it is finally dealt with.
