Well, that’s an interesting take on the furor that DOGE titan Elon Musk has endured since taking up his “special role” in the Trump administration.
According to a humorous report from Politico, Musk has apparently thrown yet another curveball at critics by not becoming involved in politics … or at least that’s the major claim he is making now.
“Elon Musk’s pledge to step back from campaign spending – if he means it – is rippling across the nation’s political landscape. Some Republicans are worried that they might be losing their whale. Some Democrats fear they are losing their foil,” Politico detailed.
Haha.
“Losing their foil.” In other words, Politico is basically admitting that the Democrats enjoyed blaming everything on Musk just as they enjoy blaming everything on Trump.
“Musk, the world’s richest man with a net worth estimated at more than $420 billion, announced that he will ‘do a lot less’ political spending, a surprise reversal of his promise to continue to play a major role influencing U.S. elections. It’s a significant turnaround from the days after Trump’s win in November, when Musk posted on social media that he would ‘keep grinding’ away at election funding and ‘play a significant role in primaries,’” Politico added.
Well, for all Politico knows, perhaps Musk is still “grinding away” … in a less visible role.
Trump associate Steve Bannon certainly seemed pleased about Musk supposedly taking a step down.
“Taking his toys and going home,” Bannon jeered.
Not so fast, Bannon. If there is one thing Musk has proven, it is that predictability is not exactly his “secret sauce.”
Naturally, Politico had to load up on additional rumors and fear-inspiring intrigue to make Musk still appear deeply sinister.
“Democrats especially don’t expect the tech billionaire to fully withdraw from political spending, and they expect him to funnel contributions legally through non-public, dark money means,” Politico intoned.
“Especially,” huh?
Politico also quoted a Democrat associate to “prove” its point.
Pat Dennis, who serves as president of American Bridge, a major Democratic super PAC, argued that Musk will continue to influence politics with money, albeit through a nonprofit instead.
“I believe he will start moving his money in the background, through nonprofits. It’ll be a lot more of that now,” Dennis declared.
Right.
That said, perhaps the most absurd point of all occurred when Politico claimed that Musk “earned” the worldwide outrage he received upon his work with DOGE.
“The public face of the Department of Government Efficiency’s massive overhaul of the federal workforce, Musk earned the ire of many Americans,” Politico declared.
“Earned?”
Wow, that’s quite the statement.
Musk earned the right to be hated worldwide? Wow.
Fortunately, other individuals – namely conservatives – have taken a more measured view.
Such as Republican consultant Josh Novotney.
“I believe he means it right now. But every election is unique. So, he may be motivated to be active again in the future,” Novotney mused.
Without a doubt.
As for what will really happen?
Perhaps one Virginia Republican, who was granted anonymity in order to speak freely, said it the best: “Eh, we’ll see.”
Indeed, we will …
