Once again, leading Democrats have demonstrated just how little they care about democracy.
Which is especially evident in Ms. Nancy Pelosi’s sudden shift in opinion regarding the so-called “process” that would be used to select the Dems’ new presidential candidate.
Hint: It’s really not a “process” at all … it’s a blatant coronation, the same type that the nation’s Founding Fathers fled from.
And that coronation was rather evident in Pelosi’s syrupy remarks regarding Kamala’s apparently candidacy.
“Today, it is with immense pride and limitless optimism for our country’s future that I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States … My enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris for President is official, personal and political,” Pelosi brayed.
Interesting how Pelosi cites “personal” before political. Perhaps Kamala is giving Pelosi a pass to engage in even more shameless insider trading over the next few years?
After all, Pelosi did previously remark that Kamala is “astute,” as unbelievable as such an adjective seems to be to describe the cackling VP.
In September 2023, Pelosi claimed that “astute” Kamala apparently doesn’t receive the credit she deserved.
“She’s very politically astute. I don’t think people give her enough credit,” Pelosi sniffed.
Hey, people give her credit for successfully exploiting DEI madness as extensively as possible, given that she would be nowhere near the VP position, or anywhere else in politics, if she couldn’t play that card.
Which is perhaps why neither Senate Leader Chuck Schumer nor House Leader Hakeem Jeffries have endorsed Kamala … yet.
“Before he dropped out, Ms. Pelosi had recently told her colleagues in the California delegation privately that if Mr. Biden were to do so, she would favor such a process over an anointment of Ms. Harris. And she notably did not include any endorsement of the vice president in a statement she released on Sunday applauding Mr. Biden for his leadership and his decision to step aside. Her full-throated endorsement on Monday came as the party was enthusiastically coalescing around Ms. Harris …
But the two top Democrats in Congress, Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries, still have yet to offer any endorsement of Ms. Harris, even as other Democratic lawmakers enthusiastically lined up behind her candidacy,” the New York Times reported.
Well, while the silence of Schumer and Jeffries is interesting, it could also be, like most other things the Democrats do, self-serving and politically calculated.
After all, as noted by the New York Times, they could just be holding off to make the coronation seem less obvious.
“The thinking among those top congressional leaders, according to people briefed on the matter who insisted on anonymity in order to discuss a sensitive subject, is that for party leaders who hold great sway with members, an endorsement would make Ms. Harris’ nomination look more like a coronation than an organic unification of a newly-energized party. And there was no need to get in the way of the first good moment Democrats have enjoyed in weeks,” the New York Times added.
Nice try, though the literally medieval political practice of coronations was obvious as soon as Biden “endorsed” her.
Assuming that it was even “Biden” at all who wrote and signed the letter, as it was a bit strange for him to decline to make a public appearance in such an important moment.
Which even Glenn Greenwald, a journalist generally known for his liberal views, remarked upon.
“I don’t endorse Biden conspiracies, but still: It’s strange and wrong that Biden hasn’t spoken given the historic magnitude of his announcement. Having a President drop out by tweet and then disappear is bizarre. If he’s well enough to decide, then he’s well enough to speak,” Greenwald remarked.
Quite bizarre, indeed.
