Wow. Seems that even woke Californians are (somewhat) waking up to economic reality.
In an amusing report from The Daily Wire, quite a few Californians have decided to just say “no” to ever-increasing “minimum wage” hikes … especially as they’re the ones ultimately funding the insanity.
Indeed, per the report, a ballot measure that aimed to increase statewide minimum wages has failed … “for the first time in California history.”
Specifically, California Proposition 32, which would have resulted in an $18 per hour minimum wage by 2026, failed by approximately 240,000 votes.
Though the shortfall constituted under 2 percent of the total difference, it signaled a favorable trend towards a more rational mindset.
Much in the way that the diverse demographics turning out to vote for Trump signaled a favorable trend towards future conservativism.
And, frankly, why should the voters have agreed to yet another asinine increase in taxes?
At this juncture in time, California already features the highest minimum wages in the country, at $16 per hour for the vast majority of workers.
Ultra-woke West Hollywood, well known for its gargantuan, in-your-face LGBTQ+ scene, currently has the highest minimum wage in the state – $19.08 per hour.
Naturally, that hourly rate is set to increase to $19.65 at the start of 2025.
At a certain point, even the wokest of the woke are going to say no to further insanity … unless they are a woke billionaire, of course.
Rebekah Paxton, a research director at the Employment Policies Institute (EPI), was rather delighted with the pointed message sent by numerous Californians to Governor Gruesome, otherwise known as Governor Newsom.
Newsom remains notorious for being the only governor in the nation to face a recall election during the pandemic, underscoring the degree to which he deeply alienated constituents.
Especially following his lavish, taxpayer-funded, indoor dining experience with so-called medical experts … while everyone else was trapped in their respective homes.
“Californians are sending Gavin Newsom and the SEIU a clear message: They’re sick of being lab rats for their pet projects,” Paxton proclaimed.
About darn time.
“Voters saw the devastating economic fallout of the $20 fast food minimum wage law, and for the first time in state history, voted against a statewide minimum wage hike,” Paxton continued.
Too bad the voters did not envision such a fallout beforehand.
Per a telling survey from the EPI, the $20 fast food minimum wage was a total disaster, serving to merely deepen divisions across the state.
Indeed, 98% of fast food restaurants increased prices after the minimum wage hike, while 89% reduced employee hours. Furthermore, 70% of fast food restaurants reduced the size of their staff.
So much for “empowering employees.” More like disempowerment … just like during the pandemic.
Of course, Nitwit Newsom does not see it that way, judging from his absurd opinion piece written for Fox News.
“Our commitment to raising the minimum wage is a testament to California’s values. We believe in fairness, equity and the idea that everyone deserves a chance to succeed. And these results dispel the cynics who say we must choose between protecting workers and growing the economy,” Newsom sneered.
Protecting workers? By allowing millions of illegals and enthusiastically shuttering businesses for good during the pandemic?
Please, Newsom, spare us all.
Though at least he’s finally getting long overdue comeuppance from his very own constituents.
