Despite the fact that gasoline prices have dramatically increased over the past several weeks, it appears that they may well continue to escalate throughout the summer, reaching a new record on June 7.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price of gasoline across the United States is currently $4.92 per gallon, hovering just eight cents under $5 per gallon.
However, on a state by state basis, the situation becomes especially dire in some cases, with California reporting upwards of $7 per gallon or more on average; recent photos from downtown Los Angeles reveal gas priced at over $8 per gallon.
OPEC+, which effectively controls the world’s oil supply, announced that it would be increasing oil production by approximately 50 percent in July and August, news that was promptly pounced upon by the White House.
Biden claimed that the intentions of OPEC+ are likely to bring relief to the pump for Americans, although doubt remains.
Gasoline prices have more than doubled under the Biden administration, especially as the White House urges Americans to purchase electric cars in order to evade high fuel prices.
At the same time, the White House has also routinely raided the nation’s strategic oil reserves, which are designed for serious emergencies, in an effort to reduce prices at the pump.
Biden has also repeatedly blamed Putin for the skyrocketing cost of fuel, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In addition, the president frequently accuses energy companies of price gouging at the pump.
However, Republicans argue that Biden has directly contributed to the issue through energy-killing policies, with one of the most significant examples including the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline.
In a statement to Fox News, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel remarked that “Joe Biden’s war on American energy has forced families across the country to empty their wallets to fill up their tanks.”
Moreover, per McDaniel, the president is currently “doubling down on his disastrous agenda” since he himself does not personally bear the brunt of the costs.
“The American people are,” McDaniel concluded.
