DEI Mayor Who Defied Federal Authorities Faces Rude Wakeup Call

Looks like a DEI Democrat mayor in Rochester, New York, is going to learn the hard way when openly defying federal immigration authorities.

Especially when that DEI mayor publicly castigated the police … for cooperating with federal authorities.

As reported by the New York Post, more than one sanctuary city Democrat might want to take note of the real consequences of siding with illegals over federal immigration policy.

Especially as those consequences are quite severe.

“A new House Republican bill would give the Trump administration the legislative green light to pull federal welfare funding for illegal immigrants from so-called “sanctuary” states and localities — if their officials refuse to help with mass deportations or other enforcement,” the New York Post reported.

Representative Claudia Tenney is spearheading the effort to hold defiant sanctuary city mayors, as well as de facto sanctuary states, accountable, making it rather clear that the incident in Rochester is precisely what drove the creation of the bill in the first place.

“Law enforcement officers who respond to the emergency call from their fellow officers should be celebrated, not chastised. Yet, Rochester city officials are seeking to penalize the RPD officers who quickly responded to assist ICE during a traffic stop, simply because of Rochester’s unlawful sanctuary city policies,” Tenney proclaimed.

Indeed, as previously reported, New York has long been one of the most aggressively pro-illegal migrant states in the entire country

So fiercely pro-illegal that a Democrat mayor in Rochester ostensible thought it was a fantastic idea to fiercely – and very publicly – belittle, if not borderline threaten, police officers who cooperated with federal authorities in dealing with a van full of illegal migrants.

That’s right: A DEI mayor actually insulted the police in public over their fulfillment of their expected duties.

The feds had called local law enforcement for much-needed backup, then law enforcement complied with the feds. Typically, this would constitute a logical sequence of events.

However, Mayor Malik Evans had other ideas.

Very public ideas, actually.

As detailed in the article, “the completely routine police response was enough to raise the ire of Democratic Rochester Mayor Malik Evans, who held a press conference on the incident Wednesday.”

So, a press conference to rant and rave about police doing their jobs? Sounds like the type of “logic” to be expected from a DEI Democrat.

“The officers on the scene verbally directed the occupants to get out of the vehicle, and this is against our policy. Our policy is crystal clear. City police officers do not help or participate in federal immigration activities,” Evans raged away, in a highly public forum.

Hopefully, Evans’s rant is worth it … considering the severity of the bill that was developed a month later to address it.

“That’s why I’m introducing the Law Enforcement Solidarity Act to make federal funding conditional on allowing local law enforcement to cooperate with federal law enforcement. No law enforcement officer, local or federal, should be abandoned because of reckless policies driven by the Left’s political agenda!” Tenney declared.

Absolutely!

And given how many billions are on the line, it would appear that New York authorities just might listen.
“In all, the Big Apple is counting on $7.4 billion in federal funds for its fiscal year 2026 spending – roughly 6.4% of its total budget,” the New York Post helpfully detailed.

Well then.

Perhaps the sanctuary state will learn, once and for all, whether the juice is really the squeeze, upon defying federal immigration authorities.
