Reps Rally Behind Expunging Trump

Dozens of Republicans are angling for former President Donald J. Trump to have the right to a clean record, at least as far as crimes and other offenses he did not commit are concerned.

Representatives Markwayne Mullin, Elise Stefanik, and upwards of 30 other Republicans have apparently introduced resolutions aimed towards “[expunging]” the former record of Trump, specifically the second impeachment that occurred following the events of January 6.

Specifically, the representatives are angling for the content of the second impeachment trial to be removed from the public record, namely the period from January 6, 2021 onward.

However, given the current Democrat majority in the House, it is highly unlikely that the Stefanik/Mullin-led resolution will pass at this juncture in time.

By the time of the midterm elections in November, however, Republicans are widely expected to sweep the House and the Senate, as well as several governorship position. Additionally, a revealed by the outcomes of many primary races, Trump’s endorsements have proven to be especially popular choices with many different candidates.

Consequently, the measure demonstrates the party’s ongoing support of Trump, who remains deeply popular amongst a broad swathe of constituents. The former president also ranks near the top, if not first, of many straw polls regarding conservatives’ preferred candidates in the 2024 presidential election.

“Democrats used their second impeachment resolution to once again weaponize one of the most grave and consequential powers of the House,” Mullin declared, adding that the second impeachment had absolutely nothing to do with the United States constitution; instead, the impeachment was purely “rooted in personal politics.”

Representative Stefanik expressed similar sentiments, arguing that the American public is more than aware of the fact that the Democrat party effectively “weaponized the power of impeachment against President Donald Trump to advance their own extreme political agenda.”

In addition, Republican House Conference Vice Chairman Mike Johnson weighed in, declaring that the former president “was rightfully acquitted,” which means that it is long “past time to expunge Democrats’ sham smear against not only President Trump’s name, but against millions of patriots across the country.”
