A Russian political analyst recently issued another warning to the White House in light of the Biden administration’s efforts to sell much more advanced weaponry to Ukraine, thereby prolonging the brutal conflict and obviating an opportunity for a peace agreement.
The weaponry includes medium range High Mobility Artillery Systems (HIMARS), which are capable of flying for 30 hours, as well as dropping hellfire missiles.
During an appearance on Russia’s Channel 1, political scientist Sergey Mikheyev declared that the United States, alongside its allies, frequently talk about “how frightening these weapons are,” yet they do not “understand what happens next.”
“They all say ‘terrible weapons are arriving over there, they keep coming and coming,” Mikheyev continued.
However, the political analyst noted that the latest round of weapons sold by the United States to Ukraine, which has already raised concerns about war profiteering, is especially problematic as it will equip Ukrainians with the ability to strike directly into Russian territory, representing a potentially serious escalation of conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, insists that the weapons will not be used for launching attacks against Russia, but rather for defending Ukraine.
“I know some of the people in the United States are saying … we might be using them to attack Russia,” Zelenskyy remarked, adding that Ukraine is “not planning to attack Russia.”
“We’re not interested in the Russian Federation,” Zelenskyy continued, “we’re not fighting on their territory.”
Zelenskyy also emphasized that the war is currently being fought on Ukrainian territory, which is where the use of HIMRAS will be restricted.
However, Mikheyev remains deeply skeptical of Zelenskyy’s claims, claiming that Ukrainian promises to not use HIMRAS against the Russian Federation will likely fall flat.
“They promised not to use them a certain way, but most likely they will do it anyway,” the pundit continued, making the consequences clear in his following statement.
