It’s bad enough that Democrats keep threatening Americans in the present day with “reparations” for slavery, which occurred two centuries ago.
Now, Democrats are apparently demanding so-called reparations for current criminals, claiming that throwing money at criminals will apparently dissuade them from committing crimes.
Typical Democrat logic.
Little surprise that Chicago Mayor “Brandon” Johnson is leading the call for reparations for criminals, claiming that they are effectively owed a portion of taxpayers’ proceeds.
As overall crime rates in Chicago have increased by 17 percent, largely due to enormous increases in robbery and car theft, one would think that taxpayer funds might be better invested in law enforcement and institutions designed to combat crime.
Alas, Mayor “Brandon” Johnson has apparently decided to hurl $100M into alleged “violence prevention.”
Apparently, $500,000 of that $100M is dedicated to a so-called Commission on Restoration and Reparations, wherein a bunch of academics like the former Harvard president will collude together and plot ways to rob taxpayers while buying votes.
“I’ve added a half a million dollars for restoration and reparations to address, again, the cycle of violence,” Johnson boomed.
Hey, Mr. Mayor … perhaps the “cycle of violence” might not persist if the state actually funds the police, not to mention enforce existing laws on the books?
Of course, such a logical request is probably far too much to ask for.
Which is ironic, given that there is no end to the amount of money Dems will ask for.
“These are the first dollars spent in this city to begin the process of studying both restoration and reparations,” Johnson added.
Oh, but of course. Only a Dem could refer to $500,000 as just “the first few dollars” that will end up in another pork-laden black hole.
“We added $80 million more to our youth employment program, of which we hired 25,000 young people just this summer, that’s a 20 per cent increase from the previous year … I’m going to hire 4,000 additional young people this summer,” Johnson continued.
Yeah. Such “programs” are probably what produce the Pro-Palestine protestors besieging the streets of woke cities now.
Typically, Johnson also made much of the program about race as well, claiming that the “Black caucus” backs hundreds of millions of taxpayer funds going down a black hole.
“When residents who have experienced neglect and disinvestment for generations speak out of their pain and their trauma, this administration and the Black Caucus, we hear you,” Johnson boomed.
How about the “pain and trauma” that victims have suffered at the hands of criminals, including law enforcement officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty?
Again, too logical for Mr. “Brandon.”
“My full-out community safety plan not only gets at the root causes of violence in the city of Chicago, but we’re making critical investments. Those investments look like what I’ve presented in my last budget, a quarter of a billion dollars to address homelessness, $100 million for violence prevention,” the Chicago Mayor boomed.
Right. All of which will vanish as illegals continue to stream into the city, adding to the crime rate and welfare demands.
Ironically, more than one Chicago resident is already enraged about illegal arrivals, which was made abundantly clear at a recent special meeting for Chicago City Council.
“I’m not against anyone coming in here legally. I want to say that clearly. But for those who have not, they don’t top us. They don’t go before us. We’re not last in line … I’m not for the sanctuary city … And the reason why I’m not for the sanctuary city is because people have waited years to come in here legally,” an upset resident declared.
While the resident makes outstanding points, it is pretty clear that the Dems are just fine with routine illegal activity.
Indeed, Johnson made it clear that criminals will be welcomed with wide open arms upon their release into society, probably after spending a whopping two weeks in jail for aggravated armed robbery, or other ridiculous sentence.
“We have stood up an entire office dedicated to re-entry, so individuals who are returning to our communities who have been incarcerated, because of failed policies, we’ll have a welcoming space for them,” Johnson declared.
Wow.
So, according to Dem logic, ” “failed policies” result in incarceration, rather than the crime itself. Got it.
Only a Democrat could justify robbing taxpayers to create “a welcoming space” for criminals who routinely endanger society with impunity.
